Digging through Gramma's recipes


As I begin the daunting task of reading and preserving the best of Gramma's recipes. I'll start here with two recipes written on the back of an envelope dated March 25, 1975.



As I type the recipes I can almost smell sweetness of baked desserts in the air.


Cranberry Chews
350°, 30-35 minutes,   9x9 or 9x13 pan
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup flour
1 cup cranberries halved
1/2 cup chopped nuts
powdered sugar for rolling

Beat eggs, sugar, vanilla, baking powder, and salt till thich and ivory colored.  Fold in flour, cranberries and nuts.  Spread in Greased pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes till golden.  Cut and roll in powdered sugar.

Mint Puffies
13x9 pan, 350°,    30 minutes
1/2 cup chocolate mint chips
2 eggs separated
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup chopped nuts

Melt chocolate in double boiler over hot water.  Beat egg whites till foamy, add 1 cup sugar, beat till stiff.  Combine yolks with next 6 ingredients, mix till partially combined, low speed.  Press in bottom of ungreased pan.  fold melted chocolate and nuts into meringue. Spread over.  Bake 350 degrees, cut while warm with sharp knife.
